A different shade of Green
Upon entering Braintree you are greeted by the sight of Super Mutants that are operating a two tier settlement of shops and traders and soldiers on the ground and in a network of treehouses are homes and the Braintree State house. Upon entering the State House you are greeted by the sight of a Super Mutant in nice clothes and powdered wig, and a Synth in a black leather Stealth Suit and a katana strapped to his side.

Jerikko: Duke. It would appear we have a visitor. On your guard.
Duke: Relax, Jerikko. Welcome, Human. You won't find aggression here unless you brought it with you. Now, what brings you here?
Player
A: (Attack) I came here to erase you abominations from the map!
B: (Sarcasm) (Super Mutant impersonation) Me no Human! Me Super Mutant!
C: (Had to see it) I heard about a town of Super Mutants and I had to see it to believe it.
D:(Foot Smash)I helped Foot Smash out of some rubble and he brought me here
Alt D: (Cal) Cal told me about this place. Said you needed help.
Alt D: (wandering) I was just wandering around and got curious.
Duke
A: To arms! To arms!
B: I've no time for games, Human.
Jerikko: It would appear, madness has taken this one.
C: Few humans have courage to walk into a super mutant settlement. I commend you. You must have many questions. I will answer.
D: Mmmm… it is most fortunate you happened by. Foot Smash is a friend and ally. You must have many questions. I will answer.
D: You've met with the robot, Cal? Mmm, a friend of cal, is a friend to Duke. You must have many questions. I will answer.
D: Few humans have courage to walk into a super mutant settlement. I commend you. You must have many questions. I will answer.
Player
A: (Duke Adams) Who are you?
B: (Braintree) What is this place?
C: (Get to the point) The less I know the better. Your kind disgusts me. Just get to the point.
D: (Need my help?) did you need something?
Duke
A: I am President Duke Adams. Elected president of Braintree. And this is my friend and tutor, Jerikko.
Jerikko: A pleasure, Stranger. For the moment...
B: This is Braintree. A refuge for Super Mutants who wish to live in peace. And those few allies whom see more than beast and monster among us. This is our home. We fought hard to make it, and we shall not lose it.
Player
A: (Duke and Jerikko) How does a Synth and Super Mutant become friends?
B: (looking to accomplish) What is it you're looking to accomplish here?
Duke
A: I've known Jerikko since the day I was made by the institute.
Jerikko: It was my task to escort Super Mutants in to the Commonwealth when their scientists were done with their tests.
Duke: They discarded my kind as though we were nothing! Garbage!
The institute is vain and arrogant. They had no idea what super mutants are capable of.
B:
We wish to bring democracy to the Super Mutants of the Commonwealth. To unify warring states under a super mutant law. That is, once we are out from under the oppression of Gammorin's Empire.
Player
A: (Super Mutant Capabilities) And Just what are Super Mutants capable of?
B: (Democracy?) How did you come up with Democracy?
Duke
A: In a phrase, our capacity for learning. They thought my kind capable of little more than aggression and rudimentary speech. If they would have had the foresight to take responsibility for their actions, my brothers wouldn’t be scattered violent raiders like they are today.
Player:
A: (learning?) What do you mean, learning?
B: (Rude) Ha! Yeah, okay, come back when you learn how to make some sense.
C: (Big Claim) That's a pretty big claim.
D: (Explains a lot) That explains your good speech, and this whole settlement.
Duke: Indeed, Human. When we were made our minds were broken! But what the makers failed to realize is that a new mind can be built from the old! And This is my Mission! To see that Every Super Mutant in the Commonwealth become free and learned! Freed by strength of Democracy!
Duke
B: Jerikko has tutored me in the ways of survival and communication since the day we met. But it was a chance encounter with a strange orange robot that began me down this path. After meeting me he realized that the Super Mutants could be rallied behind a cause. And through rigorous debate and passionate discussion we came to the conclusion of a Super Mutant Democracy! Built on the values of ideas and culture, in place of mindless aggression. Or worse, if they were to be rallied behind a leader strong enough to take advantage of their innocence.
Player:
A: (save lives) it sounds like you could save a lot of lives.
B: (Not Innocent) Super Mutants are far from Innocent! Just cause some of you are smart enough not to shoot people on sight doesn't mean the rest of you are.
C: (Not Possible) This sounds like a fools-errand.
D: (Impressive) That's... Impressive... Especially for Super Mutants.
Duke
A/D: I'm glad to hear you say so, Human. Not all are so receptive to our message.
B/C: Hmmmm....... I see you have little faith in the Super Mutants. Perhaps We can show you through our works, rather than our actions. Let's get to business...
(After initial C or D)
Duke
C and D: Mmmm….Yes, Human. The Gammorin Empire is a threat to Braintree and the rest of the Commonwealth. Have You heard of Gammorin?
Player
A: (No) No I haven’t.
B: (Don’t care) I don’t care. Just get to the point.
C: (Gammorin’s Empire?) What is Gammorin’s Empire?
D: (Yes I have) What do you need help with?
Duke
A and C: Gammorin is a very old and malevolent Super Mutant from very far away. He and his empire are in the commonwealth looking for something. A device of some sort. Cal wouldn’t tell me what it does. However, in doing so he has sunk his teeth in to the commonwealth. He has enslaved many of my brethren and humans alike. Using his supply of F.E.V to make Super Mutants of them he deems worthy. He is a threat to the Commonwealth and to the free state of Braintree. If he is able to unify the other twelve Super Mutant Tribes under his banner, then there shall be perpetual war between the Super Mutants and Humans. And none in the commonwealth shall call themselves free or independent thereafter. Thus it is the duty of all in the commonwealth, Man or Super Mutant that wish to remain free to take arms against Gammorin!
B and D
Very well Human. We need to bolster our population and ready our military! If you wish to help, Speak with Benji about occupying the radio station, speak with Fang the Hound Trainer, and speak with Jerikko here about providing arms and armor to our soldiers. Will you help Braintree?
Player
A: (Peace) A peace between humans and Super Mutants would benefit us all.
B: (No) I won’t help. I’ll never help the likes of you.
C: (No peace) This Gammorin must be stopped, but I don’t believe there will be peace between Humans and Super Mutants.
D: (Yes) I’ll help
Duke
A: I am glad to hear you say so, Human.
B: Very well, Human. If you change your mind, you know where we are.
C: Hmm…. Perhaps we should concentrate on putting out one fire at a time.
D: Excellent. I am glad to have your support, Human. Return to me when you are done and we will discuss getting the Minutemen to help us.
(Just before leaving another Super Mutant walks in)
Cnl. Sledge: What is this?! I don’t know who you are, Human, but your help is not needed!
Jerikko: Stand Down Colonel Sledge! That isn’t your call to make!
Cnl. Sledge: I won’t take orders from Machine! Brother Duke! The Humans can not be trusted! Super Mustants must make our own future!
Duke: If we fail to make peace with humans there won’t be any future for the Super Mutants!
Cnl. Sledge: You have lost faith in your brothers!
Player
A: (Who are you?)
B: (Sledge is right) Super Mutants and Humans are too different.
C: (Racist) Super Mutants aren’t smart enough to make a settlement. As far as I’m concerned you’re all just meat shields against Gammorin.
D: (Duke is right) The only way we ensure survival is by all of us working together!
Sledge
A: I am Colonel Sledge! Field commander for Braintree operations! And you aren’t needed!
B: Even the human understands! Don’t be a fool, Duke!
C: Humans can’t be trusted! This one would see us dead just as soon as help us!
D: Bah! Duke loves humans more than Super Mutant!
Duke: Sledge! I'll not have you abuse our guest! If you wish to question my leadership than do so! But I'll not abide this behavior!
Sledge: Bah!

*After returning to Duke when missions are complete.*
Cal: If we don’t find a way to destroy Gammorin’s defenses, all the weapons, armor, or super mutants in the world won’t make a difference. He is well fortified.
Duke: Hmmm….. You’ve made a good case. If you chart out an infiltration plan with Jerikko, I’ll sign off on it.
Sledge: Do the machines now rule over Super Mutants as well? Where’s your dignity Duke!
Duke: Colonel Sledge! Cal is a friend to Braintree! You'd be wise to learn from him. Do not pick up the humans bad habit of not knowing when to speak… And when not too…
Sledge: I…. Yes, President Adams.
Player:
A: (Defenses?) What’s this about defenses?
B: (Sarcasm) OOooooh! Sledge! You’re in Trouble!
C: (Cal) What were you and Cal talking about?
D: (Everything’s ready)
Duke:
A and C: Cal is working on devising a plan to safely deactivate Gammorin’s defenses. Nothing to worry about now.
B:
Sledge: *Snarl*
D: Excellent! You’ve been invaluable in the expansion of Braintree. I thank you Ally. please accept this gift, on behalf of us all.

*If Player is not the General of the MinuteMen*
Duke: It is time to move into the next phase of preparation. Back, many years ago, a Human president called on the MinuteMen for help. Now, I too must do the same! Not only for the fight against Gammorin. But the future of Braintree means burying an unsettled past with the MinuteMen. I need you to go find the MinuteMen General and secure a meeting with him and an ambassador. Jerikko’s Intel says one of them was seen walking to Concord. Start your search there.
*When player returns as General*
Duke: Congratulations on your promotion, General.
Player: How did you know?
Duke: What we do here in Braintree is important, and fragile. I must know about my allies. I had Jerikko look into you.
*If player is the MinuteMen General.*
Duke: It is time to move into the next phase of preparation. Back, many years ago, a Human president called on the MinuteMen for help. Now, I too must do the same! Not only for the fight against Gammorin. But the future of Braintree, means burying an unsettled past with the MinuteMen. And According to my intel, you’re the new General of the MinuteMen.
Player
A: (Why the MinuteMen?) What do you need from the MinuteMen?
B: (Wrong guy/Gal) You got the wrong guy/gal. I don’t know anything about the “MinuteMen”
C: (How did you know?) How did you know I’m the General? Are you spying on me?
D: (That’s right) That’s right. I am the General.
Duke
A: The MinuteMen and the Super Mutants of the Commonwealth have a past. One of Bloodshed.
B: Human, it is too late for such lies. I already know the truth.
C: What we do here in Braintree is important, and fragile. I must know about my allies. I had Jerikko look into you.
D: Indeed. And there is much to discuss. But I am loath to do so without an ambassador on behalf of the MinuteMen to maintain accountability on both sides. We have set up Human accommodations. Return to us with a MinuteMan ambassador, and we will discuss the future of Briantree and the MinuteMen.
*Player is sent to find a an ambassador. a map location sends player to sanctuary to find a new individual named Jumping Bean Taylor.
W 1.3
Jumping Bean:
Howdy there, General! I’m a new recruit! Jumping Bean Taylor is the name!
Player
A: (Welcome) Welcome to the MinuteMen, Soldier!
B: (Sarcasm) Please don’t start Jumping.
C: (name?) Where did you get that name?
D: (Why’d you join?) Why did you join the MinuteMen?
Jumping Bean
A: Thank you, General! I won’t let you down! Even though, Soldiering ain’t exactly my specialty. That ain’t to say I don’t know how to use a gun! I had four sisters growing up, and my daddy was dead set on us learning to protect ourselves in the post-nuclear wasteland we call home!
B: Hahaha! Well, not unless you light my boot on fire! Hahahaha!
C: Oh… Back in my early days. I liked to sit a might too close to the fire if you know what I mean. I kicked up my boots, and next thing ya know! They were ablaze! And I start jumping all over the place! Screaming, Ooh! Ahh! Put me out! Put me out! And of course, everyone just laughed and laughed. Ever since the nickname just stook!
D: Well, I heard you were getting back together, and I wanted help people. But before that I was in lawyering business in Diamond City. That was… Until corruption got so bad I couldn’t stand it anymore. So I took my stuff and headed out! That’s when I heard about you guys!
Player
A: (Where are you from?)
D: (Lawyer?) I didn’t know there were still Lawyers around.
Jumping Bean
A: From the wonderful city of Atlanta! I’ve been all up and down the east coast! Twice!
D: You Betcha! Only in some of the more shall we say “Developed settlements” Those where the idea of rule of law is more the old-world memory!
D: (Better Job) I might have a better job for you. Would you be interested?
Jumping Bean: Hell yeah I would be! Whatcha got?
Player:
A: (Difficult to explain) Well, that’s kinda hard to explain.
B: (Rude/Accent) I’m gonna send you somewhere that I don’t have to hear that accent any more.
C: (common enemy) There are a group of super mutants willing to offer troops to fight an enemy. I need an ambassador there.
D: (Ambassador/Peace) I need an ambassador to begin negotiations with a new Ally for the MinuteMen.
Jumping Bean:
A: Out with it, General! Ain’t nothing too weird for ole Jumping Bean! I’m sure I’ve seen it all!
B: Hahahaha! Yeah I get that A lot! You know what the say! You can take a boy out of the south, but you can’t take the south outta the boy!
C: Super Mutants you say?! Well, that is interesting. Especially when you consider that the MinuteMen and the Super Mutants haven’t gotten along so well in the past. Hope you know what you’re doing, General.
D: Ambassador Jumping Bean taylor eh?! Well I sure like the sound of that! Who’s the ally?
Player
C: (Don’t Trust) We don’t know how much we can trust them. But we need their help.
D: (Braintree) Braintree. A Settlement of Super Mutants.
Jumping Bean
C: Understood, Sir! I’ll be on my guard. I’ll meet you there.
D: Super Mutants, Sir? That does Complicate things a might bit. But if a settlement needs my help I’m down! Just mark it on my map and I’ll meet you there!
W 1.4
Cnl. Sledge: It would appear the humans have returned.
Duke: Welcome General. And you must be the new representative.
Jumping Bean: You Betcha! Jumping Bean Taylor is the name, it’s a pleasure to meet you fine folks. But I gotta say, this is a pretty ambitious proposal. Not a lot of folks, or Super Mutants for that matter, are too keen on the idea of our kind and yours getting along.
Duke: And I hope that in the space of this meeting that I’ll be able to convince you that our goals are more aligned than you may think.
Player
A: (Optimist) I hope you’re right.
B: (Not so sure) I’m skeptical.
C: (segregation) The less time humans and Super Mutants spend together the better for all.
D: (I’m Listening) I’m Listening.
Duke
A: I’m Confident.
Sledge
B: I also have my doubts.
Duke
C: I disagree, as I shall explain.
Duke
All: Braintree and the Minutemen both have the same fundamental goal. The safety and independence for the many throughout the Commonwealth as a right. I am familiar with your work. You are a noble people, and I hope my Super Mutants learn from your example.
Jumping Bean: That sounds all well and good. But when it comes down to it the Minutemen wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Super Mutants attack on Diamond City. Super Mutants kill people.
Cn.Sledge: And People Kill Super Mutants! Don’t forget the blood on your hands!
Duke: You are right. I know Super Mutants who are so old that they were there that day. One of the things you must understand about the Super Mutants of the Commonwealth we are more complex than we seem. The mutation process damages our minds, and increases aggression. But, under the right guidance and leadership that can be reversed!
Jumping Bean: I think people are gonna need more than “Super Mutants can learn” before they start trusting you.
Duke: I was afraid you’d say that. Which is precisely why I’ve had Jerikko working on a sort of reparations project. Jerikko.
Jerikko: In my exploration of the Commonwealth I’ve discovered an old-world military storehouse containing several dozen T-45 Power Armor units. Power Armor units that would be useless to a Super Mutant, but extremely powerful in the hands of the Minutemen.
Jumping Bean: General, That armor could make a huge difference to our efforts in the Commonwealth and the Glowing sea, we’ll need that Power Armor.
Player:
A: (What for?) What do you want in exchange for the Power Armor?
B: (Don’t Trust) Just because you give us gifts doesn’t mean I trust you.
C: (Not good enough) (Charisma Orange) Not good enough. We need more to make up for the suffering your kind caused.
D: (Thank you) Thank you for the power Armor.
Duke
A: No trade. This is a gift. A show of good will.
B: Of course. Trust takes time. Patience.
C: (success) Then I shall see to it that funds be taken from the treasury and donated to the Minutemen.
C: (Fail) Cnl.Sledge: the humans greed knows no bounds!
Duke: I'm afraid that's all we have to give in terms of material goods.
D: You are welcome, General. It is the least we could do.
Jumping Bean: You didn't go through all this trouble just to give us Power Armor with no demands. What is it you really want?
Duke: Ah, how very perceptive of you. Our only demand for making peace with Minutemen is that you accept Super Mutants in to your settlements. There are many non-violent super mutants in the Commonwealth who could learn much from the Minutemen. And in return, once a day we will provide you with a Super Mutant squad to help you in your tasks in the commonwealth.
Jumping Bean: Humans and Super Mutants living side by side… that's tricky. It's a lot of responsibility but if what he says is true we could end up saving a lot of lives. What do you think General
Player
A: (Jumping Bean) What do you think?
B: (Long time coming) let's put our past behind us. You have a deal!
C: (No deal) no way. I can't accept the risk of Super Mutants in my settlements.
D: (Deal) You have a deal. Super Mutants are welcome.
Jumping Bean: I think he's been fair and upfront as a bull with manners this whole meeting. And it's not like all the fighting helps either of us.
Duke:
B & D: That is most reassuring. May we have a long and fruitful partner….*Duke is interrupted by explosion*
C:
Sledge: I told you the humans wouldn't agree to your terms!
Duke: Hmmm, that is unfortunate, General. Perhaps… *Duke use is interrupted by explosion*
Jerikko: What was that?!
Foot Smash: Gammorin's soldiers attacking! To Arms! To Arms!
*when the player leaves the state house they see many of Gammorin's troops descend on Braintree. After the Battle subsides, Duke walks up to the player.*
Duke: Are you okay?! Gammorin has gone too far! They have taken Zoe alive. A war council assembles in the glowing sea, meet us there and let’s finally end this!
Jumping Bean: I’ll get some Minutemen to procure the power armor. Meet you at the War Council, General!

*Go to Belly in the beast*
